Call for PhD student submissions to the ECCE 2022 Doctoral Consortium

Dear PhD Supervisors in the domain of Cognitive Ergonomics and HCI, The European Conference on Cognitive Ergonomics, ECCE 2022, will be in October 2022. see: https://hci.uni-kl.de/ecce2022/ Please, consider this Call for Doctoral Consortium participation, and suggest your PhD students to apply: The ECCE 2022 Doctoral Consortium has the following objectives: * to provide PhD students with the opportunity to share their research with other students and experts; * to give feedback on the research to the participants; * to give the opportunity to solve issues that PhD students could encounter during their path; * to encourage open and useful discussions; * to provide insights that will help students for the continuation of their research. The Doctoral Consortium provides a great opportunity for PhD students to discuss and share experiences and problems with other students and with a panel of experts. It is likely to lead to the generation of new ideas and directions for their research. We expect to accept 10 to 15 students. Two leading experts will mentor PhD research students at the Doctoral Consortium PhD students are invited to apply for the ECCE 2022 Doctoral Consortium, which will be held on October 4th, 2022. Participation will be online or in presence (depending on the pandemic situation). PhD students accepted for the Doctoral Consortium will receive a free registration for the full conference (funded by EACE). Submissions should provide a 2-page summary of the PhD student’s work (including research context, achievements so far, future directions and issues experienced) and a 1-page CV. Deadline March 15th, 2022 After acceptance, the student should deliver a Doctoral Consortium paper of maximal 6 pages, including references and possible appendices. DC papers that are delivered complete, according to the comments of the reviewers, will be published with the Conference proceedings in the ACM Digital Library. Workshops: Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit proposals for workshops to be held in conjunction with the 33rd ACM Conference on Hypertext and Social Media conference. The Internet of Sounds is an emerging research field positioned at the intersection of the Internet of Things and Sound and Music Computing domains. The workshop will be hosted at the Institute of Creative Media Technology of the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences (Austria) and will take place on the 7th of September 2022. Today, service and cloud technologies are applied to build large-scale software landscapes as well as to provide single software services to end users. Services today are independently developed and deployed as well as freely composed while they can be implemented in a variety of technologies, a quite important fact from a business perspective. Similarly, cloud computing aims at enabling flexibility by offering a centralised sharing of resources. The industry's need for agile and flexible software and IT systems has made cloud computing the dominating paradigm for provisioning computational resources in a scalable, on- demand fashion. Nevertheless, service developers, providers, and integrators still need to create methods, tools and techniques to support cost-effective and secure development as well as use of dependable devices, platforms, services and service- oriented applications in the cloud. The European Conference on Service-Oriented and Cloud Computing (ESOCC) is the premier conference on advances in the state of the art and practice of service- oriented computing and cloud computing in Europe. The main objectives of this conference are to facilitate the exchange between researchers and practitioners in the areas of service-oriented computing and cloud computing, as well as to explore the new trends in those areas and foster future collaborations in Europe and beyond. At the core, the adjective smart comprises terms like intelligent, purpose oriented, supportive, artful, clever and the like. Thus, smart does not necessarily include the usage of technology (neither does it exclude technology!). The COVID-19 pandemic has been extremely challenging to address several research contexts, suddenly the two dimensions that characterises the smart learning ecosystems – physical and virtual – started to be perceived somewhat as antithetical and it came out that the e-maturity of a learning ecosystem is not sufficient to explain and predict its transformation. Many factors concur – processual, social, individual – to determine the technological evolution of learning ecosystems and their smartness. For sure the pandemic has generated a higher awareness about the intrinsic nature of the smart learning ecosystems and it is likely that they will no longer be the same after the pandemic. Papers that report on work that nurtures a post-pandemic view and strategy for a better learning world are specially welcome.
