CfP: 12th IEEE International Conference on Cloud Engineering (IC2E), https://conferences.computer.org/IC2E/2024/, Paphos, Cyprus (Sept. 24-27, 2024)
The IEEE International Conference on Cloud Engineering (IC2E) is a premier conference on Cloud Computing, which in the last two decades has significantly changed the way IT resources are consumed.
###IMPORTANT DATES###
* Abstract submission deadline: April 12, 2024 (AoE)
* Full and short paper submission deadline: April 19, 2024 (AoE)
* Author notification and start of shepherding phase: June 30, 2024
* Camera-ready copies: August 2, 2024
###TOPICS OF INTEREST###
IC2E provides a high-quality, comprehensive forum where researchers and practitioners can exchange information on engineering principles, enabling technologies, and practical experiences related to Cloud Computing. The conference brings together experts who work on different levels of the cloud stack – including systems, storage, networking, platforms, databases, applications, and software engineering. IC2E offers an end-to-end view of the challenges and technologies in Cloud Computing, fosters new research that addresses the interaction between different layers of the stack, and ultimately helps shape the future of cloud-transformed business and society.
IC2E 2024 invites submissions of high-quality research papers describing fully developed results and ongoing foundational and applied work related to all aspects of cloud engineering. The IC2E Program Committee will interpret “cloud engineering” very broadly – to include everything from engineering principles to practical experiences, and advances that target different levels of the cloud stack, from both academia and industry. In particular, submissions on topics of emerging interest in the research and development communities are encouraged.
Authors can choose to submit their papers under either the Research and Vision or Industry and Experience Track. Submissions are invited on the following non-exhaustive list of topics for both tracks:
* Cloud management and engineering, from single (micro-)services to complete system landscapes
* Cloud applications, ranging from the Internet of Things (IoT) over Big Data to Machine Learning
* Cloud systems, including storage, data distribution, and serverless computing
* Cloud security and privacy concerns on all levels of the Cloud stack
* Fog and Edge Computing, and all other system types in the Cloud-Edge Compute Continuum
* Everything as a Service
* Non-technical aspects of Cloud Computing, e.g., Cloud governance or cloud economics
For a full list of the topics, please visit https://conferences.computer.org/IC2E/2024/.
IC2E is looking for the following three types of paper submissions:
* Research papers describe original well-evaluated research. Novelty is a key criterion in the review process.
* Vision papers describe speculative but well-reasoned and inspiring papers. Here, the insights and clarity of the vision are of key concern.
* Industry and experience papers describe how existing research has been transferred into practice. The review focus is on the lessons learned, including those relevant for researchers.
Research and vision papers should be submitted to the Research Track, industry and experience papers to the Industry Track. Vision papers should have "(Vision Paper)" as a subtitle on the first page.
###SUBMISSION###
Authors must submit full and short papers in PDF via the Web submission form at EasyChair (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ic2e2024), upon selecting Research Track or Industry Track options. Both Research Track and Industry Track papers should use the IEEE Manuscript Template for Conference Proceedings for formatting. LaTeX users must use \documentclass[10pt,conference]{IEEEtran}, without including the compsoc or compsocconf options. As reviewers often ask for additional content, IC2E differentiates between paper formatting for reviewing and for the final published version:
* Full papers: For reviewing, full papers (including figures and tables) should not exceed 9 double-column pages; references can be additional pages. For the final published version, full papers are limited to a total of 12 double-column pages including everything.
* Short papers: For reviewing, short papers are limited to 5 pages, not including references, and should be clearly marked as such in the title. For the final published version, short papers are limited to 8 pages, including everything.
IC2E supports Open Science practices. Therefore, authors are strongly encouraged to publish software and data sets as open-source/data.
All submitted manuscripts will be peer-reviewed. Depending on the paper type, submissions will be judged on correctness, originality, technical strength, significance, quality of presentation, and interest and relevance to the conference scope. Submitted manuscripts must contain original contributions, and their contributions must not have appeared in or be under consideration for publication in another workshop, conference, or journal. Accepted papers will be published by the IEEE Computer Society Conference Publishing Services (EI indexed).

Greenville, South Carolina, USA,
March 18-21, 2024 https://iui.acm.org/2024/
** Overview **
The IUI 2024 Doctoral Consortium (DC) provides students an opportunity to present and receive feedback about their research in an interdisciplinary workshop, under the guidance of a panel of mentors selected from senior researchers in the field. We invite students who feel they would benefit from this kind of feedback—the ideal participant is a doctoral student about two years from finishing their Ph.D. We will also consider advanced Master's students and junior Ph.D. students provided their research plan is sufficiently developed to benefit from the discussion at the DC.
Submissions will be selected by the DC chairs and potentially other reviewers. The strongest candidates will be those who have a clear topic and research approach and who have made some progress, but are not too far along in their research so that they can still reshape their research topic or approach.
The final version of accepted Doctoral Consortium submissions will be included in the main conference proceedings published in the ACM Digital Library. The Doctoral Consortium workshop will take place as a separate session in parallel to workshops and tutorials, and DC participants will have the opportunity to present their research in the poster session during the main program.
Complimentary/reduced conference registration will be available for students. Doctoral Consortium participants will also be given high priority when applying for the student travel awards, under the precondition that they agree to assist as student volunteers in the organization of the event.
** Objectives **
The objectives of the Doctoral Consortium are to:
* Serve as a supportive setting to provide/receive feedback on students' current doctoral research as well as guidance on future research directions;
* Offer each student comments and fresh perspectives on their work from researchers and students outside of their own institution;
* Promote the development of a supportive community of scholars and a spirit of collaborative research;
* Contribute to the conference goals through interaction with other researchers and conference events.

ACM UMAP 2024: The 32nd ACM Conference on User Modeling, Adaptation and Personalization
Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy
July 1-4, 2024
ACM UMAP is the premier international conference for researchers and practitioners working on systems that adapt to individual users or groups of users, and that collect, represent, and model user information. ACM UMAP is sponsored by ACM SIGCHI<https://sigchi.org/> and SIGWEB<https://www.sigweb.org/>. User Modeling Inc.<https://um.org/>, as the core Steering Committee, oversees the conference organization. The proceedings, published by ACM, will be part of the ACM Digital Library<https://dl.acm.org/>.
The theme of UMAP 2024 is “Collaboration and Cooperation for the Greater Good“. Specifically, we welcome submissions that highlight the impact that working together and synergy (such as between academia, industry, influential policy making bodies, committees and communities) can have on solving the world’s biggest problems; the focus is on investigations that capture how user modeling, personalization, and adaptation of (intelligent) systems may influence user behavior, trustful processes and whether new models are required, for building sustainable and inclusive services and solutions that can address critical challenges of our world.
While we encourage submissions related to this theme, the scope of the conference is not limited to the theme only. As always, contributions from academia, industry, and other organizations discussing open challenges or novel research approaches are expected to be supported by rigorous evidence appropriate to claims (e.g., user study, system evaluation, computational analysis).

** Fairness, Transparency, Accountability, and Privacy **
Researchers, developers, and practitioners have a social responsibility to account for the impact that technologies have on individuals (users, providers, and other stakeholders) and society. This track invites works related to the science of building, maintaining, evaluating, and studying adaptive systems that are fair, transparent, respectful of users’ privacy, beneficial to society, and accountable for their impacts.
** Personalization for Persuasive and Behavior Change Systems **
This track invites submissions focused on personalization and tailoring for persuasive technologies, including but not limited to personalization models, user models, computational personalization, design, and evaluation methods. It also welcomes work that brings attention to the user experience and designing personalized and adaptive behavior change technologies.
** Virtual Assistants, Conversational Interactions, and Personalized Human-Robot Interaction **
This track invites works investigating new models and techniques for adapting synthetic companions (e.g., virtual assistants, chatbots, social robots) to individual users. With the conversational modality so in vogue across disciplines, this track welcomes work highlighting the model and deployment of synthetic companions driven by conversational search and recommendation paradigms.
** Research Methods and Reproducibility**
This track invites submissions on methodologies to evaluate personalized systems, benchmarks, and measurement scales, with particular attention to the reproducibility of results and techniques. Furthermore, the track looks for submissions that report new insights from reproducing existing works.
** Submission and Review Process**
For UMAP 2024 we encourage two kinds of submissions (reviewers will comment on whether the size is appropriate for each contribution), in the ACM new single-column format<https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template>:
* Long papers should report on substantial contributions of lasting value. The maximum length is 14 pages (excluding references, which do not count towards the limit). Each accepted long paper will be included in the conference proceedings and presented in a plenary session as part of the main conference program.
* Short papers typically discuss exciting new work that is not yet mature enough for a long paper. In particular, novel but significant proposals will be considered for acceptance to this category despite not having gone through sufficient experimental validation or lacking strong theoretical foundation. The maximum length is 7 pages (excluding references, which do not count towards the limit). Each accepted short paper will be included in the conference proceedings and presented either as an oral presentation or at the poster session.
UMAP uses a double-blind review process. Authors must omit their names and affiliations from their submissions; they should also avoid obvious identifying statements. For instance, citations to the authors’ prior work should be in the third person. Submissions not abiding by anonymity requirements will be desk rejected. In addition, UMAP 2024 will introduce a new “Raise Your Voice” stage during evaluation, offering a small window to authors to optionally discuss the initial decision of their submission, enhancing the transparency and quality of the reviewing process. Additional review criteria and submission link will be available shortly on the conference website: https://www.um.org/umap2024.
UMAP has a no dual submission policy, which is why full and short paper submissions should not be currently under review at another publication venue. Further, UMAP operates under the ACM Conference Code of Conduc<https://www.acm.org/about-acm/policy-against-harassment>t.

*Overview*
-----------------------------------------------------------
This special issue is intended to investigate human-centred and
design-led approaches to Human-Robot Collaboration (HRC). Robotic
capabilities are diversifying and, with those, so are opportunities and
challenges for HRC. With the intention of leveraging the complementary
skills of people and robots, HRC has a wide range of applications,
including manufacturing, emergency response, education, healthcare, and
the home. Furthermore, with collaborative robots, or “cobots”,
moving into “the wild”, research that goes beyond expanding mechanical
robotic capabilities is becoming more critical. As robots are no longer
isolated mechanical tools operating at their own pace and in their own
confined space, we call for research on how to design for close
collaboration between robots and people.
There is a need for diverse approaches to understand and design
collaborative robotic systems from a human-centred rather than
technology-driven perspective, thereby empowering people in the
collaboration. Questions relevant to be answered for design-led,
human-centred HRC include:
• What are methodological approaches to HRC research that emphasise the
role of people?
• How can HRC become accessible to diverse populations, e.g., through
conveying robot intent in various modalities or through novel
interaction approaches?
• How can we design for various human-robot configurations, e.g.,
considering different robot behaviours in changing environments and
situations?
• How can robots adapt to fluctuations in human performance and working
rhythms?
Given the diverse range of applications for HRC, there is an opportunity
for multiple disciplines to come together to explore the many dimensions
of this emerging field. Collaboration between disciplines such as
robotics, interaction design, human factors, psychology, architecture,
and more is crucial for understanding and addressing the many challenges
of designing inclusive, adaptable, trustworthy, effective, and safe HRC
systems. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, we can develop more
comprehensive solutions that leverage the strengths of each discipline
and create a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in
human-robot collaboration.
Investigating implications of people collaborating closely with robots
is critical to shaping the future of HRC. These implications include
ethical and social aspects of integrating robots into particular
application domains and understanding the impact of robots in terms of,
e.g., people’s daily routines and life experiences. Additionally, it is
essential to examine how HRC can impact workforce dynamics and job roles
as more organizations integrate robots into their operations.
By exploring the implications of HRC, we can (1) identify challenges and
opportunities and (2) develop strategies for ensuring that HRC systems
benefit and support people. The guest editors encourage submissions that
consider these aspects.
-----------------------------------------------------------
*Topics of Interest*
-----------------------------------------------------------
We invite researchers drawing upon design-based research approaches to
share their theoretical, methodological, or practical perspectives. We
welcome submissions that report on qualitative or quantitative studies,
systematic reviews or scoping reviews, as well as theoretical and
reflective pieces.
The indicative list of topics of interest for this special issue
includes, but is not limited to:
• Human-centred investigations of HRC
• Design-led approaches to HRC
• Robot adaptability
• HRC “in the wild”, e.g., methodological perspectives and/or studies of
particular domains
• Inclusive design and accessibility for HRC
• Critical and speculative design approaches to HRC
• Participatory design in HRC
• Ethical issues for HRC
• Sustainable design in HRC
• Design of trustworthy collaborative robots
• HRC and architectural methods and design
• Empirical and human-centred evaluations of HRC
• Mixed human-robot team collaboration
• Playfulness and/or gamification for HRC
