ACM UMAP is the premier international conference for researchers and practitioners working on systems that adapt to individual users or groups of users, and that collect, represent, and model user information. The theme of UMAP 2024 is “Collaboration and Cooperation for the Greater Good“. Specifically, we welcome submissions that highlight the impact that working together and synergy (such as between academia, industry, influential policy making bodies, committees and communities) can have on solving the world’s biggest problems; the focus is on investigations that capture how user modeling, personalization, and adaptation of (intelligent) systems may influence user behavior, trustful processes and whether new models are required, for building sustainable and inclusive services and solutions that can address critical challenges of our world.
While we encourage submissions related to this theme, the scope of the conference is not limited to the theme only. As always, contributions from academia, industry, and other organizations discussing open challenges or novel research approaches are expected to be supported by rigorous evidence appropriate to claims (e.g., user study, system evaluation, computational analysis).

** Personalized Recommender Systems **
This track invites works from researchers and practitioners on recommender systems. In addition to mature research works addressing technical aspects of recommendations, we welcome research contributions that address questions related to user perception, decision-making, and the business value of recommender systems.
** Knowledge Graphs, Semantics, Social and Adaptive Web **
This track welcomes works focused on the use of knowledge representations (i.e., novel knowledge bases), graph algorithms (i.e., graph embedding techniques), and social network analysis at the service of addressing all aspects of personalization, user model building, and personal experience in online social systems. Moreover, this track invites works in adaptive hypermedia, as well as semantic and social web.
** Intelligent User Interfaces **
This track invites works exploring how to make the interaction between computers and people smarter and more productive, leveraging solutions from human-computer interaction, data mining, natural language processing, information visualization, and knowledge representation and reasoning.
** Personalizing Learning Experiences through User Modeling **
This track invites researchers, developers, and practitioners from various disciplines to submit their innovative learning solutions, share acquired experiences, and discuss their modeling challenges for personalized adaptive learning.
** Fairness, Transparency, Accountability, and Privacy **
Researchers, developers, and practitioners have a social responsibility to account for the impact that technologies have on individuals (users, providers, and other stakeholders) and society. This track invites works related to the science of building, maintaining, evaluating, and studying adaptive systems that are fair, transparent, respectful of users’ privacy, beneficial to society, and accountable for their impacts.
** Personalization for Persuasive and Behavior Change Systems **
This track invites submissions focused on personalization and tailoring for persuasive technologies, including but not limited to personalization models, user models, computational personalization, design, and evaluation methods. It also welcomes work that brings attention to the user experience and designing personalized and adaptive behavior change technologies.
** Virtual Assistants, Conversational Interactions, and Personalized Human-Robot Interaction **
This track invites works investigating new models and techniques for adapting synthetic companions (e.g., virtual assistants, chatbots, social robots) to individual users. With the conversational modality so in vogue across disciplines, this track welcomes work highlighting the model and deployment of synthetic companions driven by conversational search and recommendation paradigms.
** Research Methods and Reproducibility**
This track invites submissions on methodologies to evaluate personalized systems, benchmarks, and measurement scales, with particular attention to the reproducibility of results and techniques. Furthermore, the track looks for submissions that report new insights from reproducing existing works.
** Submission and Review Process**
For UMAP 2024 we encourage two kinds of submissions (reviewers will comment on whether the size is appropriate for each contribution), in the ACM new single-column format<https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template>:
* Long papers should report on substantial contributions of lasting value. The maximum length is 14 pages (excluding references, which do not count towards the limit). Each accepted long paper will be included in the conference proceedings and presented in a plenary session as part of the main conference program.
* Short papers typically discuss exciting new work that is not yet mature enough for a long paper. In particular, novel but significant proposals will be considered for acceptance to this category despite not having gone through sufficient experimental validation or lacking strong theoretical foundation. The maximum length is 7 pages (excluding references, which do not count towards the limit). Each accepted short paper will be included in the conference proceedings and presented either as an oral presentation or at the poster session.
UMAP uses a double-blind review process. Authors must omit their names and affiliations from their submissions; they should also avoid obvious identifying statements. For instance, citations to the authors’ prior work should be in the third person. Submissions not abiding by anonymity requirements will be desk rejected. In addition, UMAP 2024 will introduce a new “Raise Your Voice” stage during evaluation, offering a small window to authors to optionally discuss the initial decision of their submission, enhancing the transparency and quality of the reviewing process. CAiSE'24 invites proposals for tutorials on advanced topics in the field of Information Systems
Engineering. Tutorials should aim at offering new insights, knowledge, and skills to
professionals, educators, researchers, and students seeking to gain a better understanding
either about methods of broad interest in the field, or emergent paradigms that are ripe for
practical adoption or that require further research to reach maturity.
Proposals emphasizing the special theme of the CAISE'24 conference “Information Systems in
the Age of Artificial Intelligence” are encouraged, but proposals on other new or long-standing
topics in information systems engineering are also welcome.
Tutorials should be focused on principles, concepts, and methods. Commercial or
sales-oriented presentations are not allowed and will not be accepted.
Tutorials are intended to provide a pedagogic introduction to or overview of a topic of
relevance. Potential presenters should keep in mind that there may be a heterogeneous
audience, including novice graduate students, experienced practitioners, and specialized
researchers. Tutorial speakers should be prepared to cope with this diversity in the audience.
Tutorials will be 90 minutes long and organized in parallel with the technical sessions of the
main conference and participants of the conference will have free access to all of them.
Potential proposers are free to contact the tutorial chairs via e-mail to validate their idea prior
to the submission.
SELECTION CRITERIA
The tutorial chairs will review each proposal and select a subset of them based on the
following criteria:
1. relevance to the field of IS engineering;
2. anticipated appeal to the conference audience;
3. timeliness and importance for the conference audience;
4. past experience and qualifications of the instructor(s).
The tutorial chairs will also consider the complementarity of the proposal w.r.t. the conference
program and other tutorial proposals.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Tutorial proposals should be submitted to Easy Chair using the conference submission site
(https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=caise2024) and then selecting the “CAiSE 2024
Tutorials” track.
The proposal (length up to 1500 words) should cover the following points:
• Title
• Presenters and affiliation
• Goal: The overall goal of the tutorial.
• Scope: Intended audience, level (basic or advanced), and prerequisites.
• Topic relevance and novelty: Specifically indicate the relevance to the scope of CAiSE,
the relevance to practice, the novel aspects that would make this tutorial beneficiary and
appealing to CAiSE participants.
• Structure of contents: Here you should provide a structured overview of your planned
tutorial, organized into numbered sections and subsections. For each subsection, you
should sketch its contents in a few sentences or bullet points.
• References: Provide references to papers, books, etc. that your tutorial builds on. Please
specify previous venues at which similar tutorials have been presented by you and
indicate the difference between the proposed tutorial and previous ones. CAiSE usually
does not accept tutorials that have been presented in other venues.
• Sample Slides: Include at least 5 sample slides of the presentation you plan to give if
your tutorial is accepted. Select slides that are typical of your presentation style. These
slides have to be submitted in a separate PDF file.
Services provided to tutorialists
• A 2-page tutorial abstract will be published in the CAiSE LNCS proceedings
• Tutorials will benefit from the local organizational infrastructure (registration, badges,
refreshments, beamers, screens, etc.).
• Advertisement of the tutorial on CAISE 2024 homepage and mailings.
• The conference fee will be waived for tutorial presenters (one fee per tutorial).

This special issue is intended to investigate human-centred and
design-led approaches to Human-Robot Collaboration (HRC). Robotic
capabilities are diversifying and, with those, so are opportunities and
challenges for HRC. With the intention of leveraging the complementary
skills of people and robots, HRC has a wide range of applications,
including manufacturing, emergency response, education, healthcare, and
the home. Furthermore, with collaborative robots, or “cobots”,
moving into “the wild”, research that goes beyond expanding mechanical
robotic capabilities is becoming more critical. As robots are no longer
isolated mechanical tools operating at their own pace and in their own
confined space, we call for research on how to design for close
collaboration between robots and people.
There is a need for diverse approaches to understand and design
collaborative robotic systems from a human-centred rather than
technology-driven perspective, thereby empowering people in the
collaboration. Questions relevant to be answered for design-led,
human-centred HRC include:
• What are methodological approaches to HRC research that emphasise the
role of people?
• How can HRC become accessible to diverse populations, e.g., through
conveying robot intent in various modalities or through novel
interaction approaches?
• How can we design for various human-robot configurations, e.g.,
considering different robot behaviours in changing environments and
situations?
• How can robots adapt to fluctuations in human performance and working
rhythms?
Given the diverse range of applications for HRC, there is an opportunity
for multiple disciplines to come together to explore the many dimensions
of this emerging field. Collaboration between disciplines such as
robotics, interaction design, human factors, psychology, architecture,
and more is crucial for understanding and addressing the many challenges
of designing inclusive, adaptable, trustworthy, effective, and safe HRC
systems. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, we can develop more
comprehensive solutions that leverage the strengths of each discipline
and create a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in
human-robot collaboration.
Investigating implications of people collaborating closely with robots
is critical to shaping the future of HRC. These implications include
ethical and social aspects of integrating robots into particular
application domains and understanding the impact of robots in terms of,
e.g., people’s daily routines and life experiences. Additionally, it is
essential to examine how HRC can impact workforce dynamics and job roles
as more organizations integrate robots into their operations.
By exploring the implications of HRC, we can (1) identify challenges and
opportunities and (2) develop strategies for ensuring that HRC systems
benefit and support people. The guest editors encourage submissions that
consider these aspects.

International Conference on Advanced Visual Interfaces (AVI)
Since 1992, AVI has been a biennial appointment for a vast international community of experts with a broad range of backgrounds. Throughout three decades, the Conference has attracted leading researchers of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) from all over the world, offering a forum to present and disseminate new technological results, paradigms, and visions for HCI and user interfaces.
Because of advanced technology and new possibilities for user interaction, AVI has broadened the topics it covers, still keeping its primary focus on the conception, design, implementation, and evaluation of novel visual interfaces.
While rooted in Italy, AVI is an actual international conference concerning the nationality of participants, authors of papers, and program committee members. The mixture of carefully selected research contributions paired with cordial Italian hospitality creates a unique conference atmosphere, which has made AVI an internationally recognized brand.

We solicit high-quality original research papers in the area of advanced visual interfaces and Human-Computer Interaction in general. All submissions will be peer-reviewed by an international panel of experts.
Accepted long and short research papers will be included in the Proceedings published by ACM Press and available in the ACM Digital Library.
Long and Short papers are publications that address AVI 2024 topics and describe original, unpublished research. Submissions must be anonymized.
The maximum length of long papers is 8 pages (with one additional page for references).
The maximum length of short papers is 4 pages (with one additional page for references).

The International Conference on Software and Systems Reuse (ICSR) is a biannual conference
in the field of software reuse research and technology. ICSR is a premier event aiming to
present the most recent advances and breakthroughs in the area of software reuse and to
promote an intensive and continuous exchange among researchers and practitioners.
The guiding theme of this edition is Sustainable Software Reuse.
We invite submissions on new and innovative research results and industrial experience
reports dealing with all aspects of software reuse within the context of the modern software
development landscape. Topics include but are not limited to the following.

We welcome research (16 pages) and industry papers (12 pages) following the Springer
Lecture Notes in Computer Science format. Submissions will be handled via
EasyChair (https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=icsr2024). Submissions will be
**double-blindly** reviewed, meaning that authors should:
• Omit all authors’ names and affiliations from the title page
• Do not include the acknowledgement section, if you have any, in the submitted paper
• Refer to your own work in the third person
• Use anonymous GitHub, Zenondo, FigShare or equivalent to provide access to artefacts
without disclosing your identity
Both research and industry papers will be reviewed by members of the same program
committee (check the website for details). Proceedings will be published by Springer in
their Lecture Notes for Computer Science (LNCS) series. An award will be given to the best
research and the best industry papers.
The authors of selected papers from the conference will be invited to submit an extended
version (containing at least 30% new material) to a special issue in the Journal of Systems and
Software (Elsevier). More details will follow.

L’assegno di ricerca ha l’obiettivo di sviluppare gli scenari di
biofeedback-VR sviluppati nel progetto PRIN “BRAVE”. Un Ambiente
Virtuale (VE) sarà basato su scenari non interattivi, necessari per
l'identificazione del modello di ansia soggettiva. I VE saranno creati
utilizzando modelli e asset liberamente disponibili, oppure creati ad
hoc con tecniche di fotogrammetria. Un altro VE integrerà la modulazione
basata sul biofeedback sviluppata nel progetto. Verrà poi creato un
exergame finale, in cui l'utente potrà sperimentare tutti gli scenari da
quelli meno ansiogeni (subliminali) a quelli più spaventosi
(interattivi, con la presenza di stimoli che provocano paura e
interattivi). Un'interfaccia grafica fornirà continuamente feedback al
soggetto sui cambiamenti che stanno avvenendo nella scena, chiedendone
conferma.

Title
Biofeedback-based VR design and implementation
Description:
This grant aims to develop the biofeedback-VR scenarios developed in the
PRIN project “BRAVE”. A Virtual Environment (VE) will be based on
non-interactive scenarios, necessary for the subjective anxiety model
identification. The Ves will be created using freely available models
and assets, or ad-hoc created with photogrammetry techniques. Another VE
will integrate the biofeedback-based modulation developed in the
project. Then, a final exergame will be created, where the user could
experience all the scenarios from the less anxiogenic (subliminal) to
the scariest (interactive, with the presence of the stimuli provoking
fear and interactive). A graphical interface will continuously provide
feedback to the subject about the changes that are happening to the
scene, asking for confirmation.
Skills:
Development of VR and MR applications; Unity 3D and Unreal Engine
development software; Creation of serious games and exergames in VR;
Interaction in VR and MR; User tracking in VR and MR; Experimental
validation of VR and MR environments; Shader programming

In this special issue, we are calling for contributions dealing with
distributed online co-design with children and its wider field of
design-based learning. We are looking for both theoretical and
methodological reflections on the position of participatory design and
co-design and empirical cases that advance design practices with
children in online environments. A significant contribution of the
volume will focus on facilitation tools and techniques connected to
the contemporary challenges of distributed online design in formal
settings (i.e. K-12) or informal settings with children.
Effective techniques and tools for co-located environments (Antle et
al., 2020, Zaman et al.,2022), which foster the genuine participation of
children (Kinnula & Iivari, 2021), have been established over the years
within the child-computer interaction community. However, technologies,
tools, and techniques for distributed online co-design with children are
only beginning to emerge, with much room for new developments and the
need for adaptations. Co-design with children in online and hybrid
environments, encountered constraints in the utilization of existing
technologies and tools, and challenges when applying longstanding design
facilitation techniques (Itenge et al., 2021; Rötkönen et al., 2021;
Rötkönen et al., 2022, Winschiers-Theophilus et al., 2022,). Within
online environments, new technological affordances and methods need to
be explored, and established facilitation strategies and co-design
methods need to be amended (Bertran et al., 2022; McVeigh-Schultz &
Isbister, 2021; Walsh et al., 2015; Warren et al., 2022). The move to
online environments offers a variety of challenges but also new
opportunities (Fails et al. 2022), including the collaborative
participation of children that are geographically distributed
(Winschiers-Theophilus et al., 2022). Given the challenges, yet also the
novel opportunities, a larger collection of theoretical and empirical
work about online co-design with children and design-based learning is
required.
