Dear HCI colleagues, Announcing the formation of a new department of HCI at MBZUAI<https://mbzuai.ac.ae/> in Abu Dhabi, UAE. I have recently joined the university to set up an HCI Department focused on HCI & AI, and human centered AI more generally. More information is below: Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) is the world’s first graduate AI university. It is a research-oriented university with 365 students (from 49 nationalities; 30% female), and over 81 world-leading faculty members. MBZUAI is already ranked in the world’s top 20 by CSRankings for AI<https://csrankings.org/#/index?ai&vision&mlmining&nlp&…&inforet&world>, a remarkable achievement for a young university dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in AI research and teaching. MBZUAI is also committed to deep research and leadership in the area of “human centered AI”, and with that commitment in mind has launched a new department of Human Computer Interaction (HCI). We have open faculty roles at all levels: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Full Professor. Research areas of interest include but are not limited to: Ubiquitous, Wearable, Tangible, and Affective Computing; Assistive Technologies and Human Augmentation (including sensory, cognitive and physical enhancement, and HCI aspects of neurotechnology and biomedical engineering); Interface Design; Interaction Design (including the design of chatbots, voice assistants, virtual agents, and advances in multimodal input); Service Design; Human Data Interaction and Complex System Visualization; Human-Agent and Human-Robot Interaction (HRI); Computational Sociology; and AI-driven Social and Societal Technologies. Domains of interest include but are not limited to: Health and Healthcare; Education; Entertainment; Business and Organizational Applications of AI; Smart Buildings and Smart Cities; Assistive Technology, and Culture and Cultural Heritage.
