Dear Mirko, Ferruccio and Farhad,
I'm sorry to hear that my instructions to reorder the two lists
according to your preferences has been misunderstood by some. The reason
for asking to reorder these lists according to preference was that this
way we would obtain an order in which to invite candidates and would not
have only a single preferred pair. The way I assigned "points" was only
reflecting the expressed preferences in the emails I received (best
effort of course).
Some people wrote me that they intentionally did not follow my proposal
because they found it more informative to propose several compatible
pairs of PC-Chairs, which I respect. Therefore I did not strictly follow
the outcome of the numbers but also took the helpful feedback and
suggestions into account. I also respected people who wanted to express
a single preference (which would be legitimate in my eyes and not
necessarily a mistake).
Of course, I'm fully aware that in a SC with many members it is
increasingly difficult to reach consensus within the time available.
With a round of expression of preferences by email it was anyway
possible to hear back from more of you than would be the case at the
hybrid meeting in Lisbon.
At this point, however, it is problematic to reopen the expression of
preferences as I have already started to invite one of the proposed
chairs. I hope you understand and that you can live with the plan
outlined in my previous email.

Dear Mieke,
looking at the spreadsheet, it seems to me that I misunderstood the
voting instructions:
- *From you mail, I (mis)understood that, in order to vote, it was
mandatory to list ALL the candidates.*
I see instead that some voters did in a different way.
I wonder whether this might have affected the outcome.

Dear All,
Thank you for expressing your preferences and for your valuable
feedback. Attached please find the preferences expressed in a table
with some selected feedback from your emails. (Note the legend at
the bottom of the page!)
For the female candidates there is an overall first preference for
Illaria Castellani, followed by Helle Hvid Hansen and then Vashti
Galpin.
For the male candidates the order is Marcello Bonsangue, Francesco
Tiezzi, Roberto Casadei and Claudio Antares Mezzina.
Even if from the above the natural order of invitation would be to
invite first Illaria and Marcello, it was noted that they have
quite an overlap in their specific field and so it might be better
to first try with a different match. Other remarks were that a
senior and somewhat less senior combination would be good choice
and the criterion on having one of the chairs from the country
where the conference will take place is not strictly needed.
Taking those remarks into consideration, my plan will be to start
inviting:
1) Illaria Castellani and Francesco Tiezzi
2) Helle Hansen and Francesco Tiezzi
3) Helle Hansen and Marcello Bonsangue (even if both located in NL)
More news will follow.
