Workshop Title: EMPATH-IA – EMpowering PAtients THrough AI, Multimedia, and Explainable HCI: Innovations in Personalized Healthcare

Part of the 16th Biannual Conference of the Italian SIGCHI Chapter (CHITALY 2025), held in Salerno, Italy, 6-10 OCTOBER 2025


We invite submissions to the EMPATH-IA workshop, focused on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and Explainable AI (XAI) to design transparent, patient-centered technologies using multimedia applications. Topics of interest include explainable interfaces, patient-centered diagnostics, mental health management, AR/VR in healthcare, ethical and privacy-aware AI, and much more.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Explainable HCI for Multimedia-Enhanced Patient Tools
  • Explainable Diagnostics and Patient-Centered Interfaces
  • HCI and XAI in Mental Health Management
  • Trustworthy and Ethical XAI for Healthcare Multimedia
  • Patient Education and Engagement Through XAI
  • ·Technical and Multimedia Innovations for Healthcare
  • Ethical and Regulatory Considerations
  • Enhancing Physician Support Through Integrated AI and Multimedia Solutions

Special Issue Opportunity:
Selected papers with a focus on multimedia will be invited to submit an extended version to a Special Issue of Multimedia Tools and Applications, titled:
"EMpowering PAtients THrough AI, Multimedia, and Explainable HCI: Innovations in Personalized Healthcare"

Paper Types Accepted:

  • Full Papers (8–10 pages): Mature research, novel methodologies, or substantial case studies
  • Short Papers (4–6 pages): Preliminary results, conceptual work, or position papers
