Dear students, I am very excited that at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, Italy, we are looking very soon for one PhD candidate with a focus on Human Computer Interaction and the Design and Development of Next Generation interfaces. This PhD will be co-financed by BMW Group which also means that you can stay at the company for at least 6 months. The topic will be about the "Entertainment in the car by using a cognitive seat with tactile feedback”. Our university has a strong international outlook, as testified by its multilingual courses (English, Italian, German) and a high number of students and teaching staff from abroad. The candidate must fulfill the following conditions to be eligible for employment: - a Master's (MSc) degree in Computer Science or a closely related area, - Human-computer interaction background, - fluency in written/spoken English. ====== MUM ’22 Doctoral Consortium ====== LINK: https://www.mum-conf.org/2022/dc/ Submission deadline: October 3rd, 2022 (AoE) ______________________________________ MUM 2022, the 21st International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, November 27th - 30th. To apply for participation in the doctoral school, we ask you to submit a 2 to 3 pages long paper using the ACM interim template. The paper should describe the context and motivation of your PhD research, the problem and aims that drive your research and your research objectives and/or questions. It should further describe and explain your (proposed) research approach and methods, a tentative timeline, and include a discussion of any results you may already have. Please also include the context of your PhD, i.e. the university programme in which you conduct your PhD, the status of your PhD, the expected completion date, and any other relevant information on your PhD situation. Submissions will not be peer-reviewed. The process will be headed by a panel of 5 experts including the DC chairs, who will be present (in person wherever possible) at the MUM 2022 conference DC discussion to advise students and guide the discussion following the students presentations of their work (more details on how the event will be organise will follow in the next weeks). We will select participants to the DC prioritising those who would likely benefit most, i.e. students who have a clear plan as a foundation for discussion, but are not already too advanced in their PhD, to still be able to benefit from advice in developing their dissertation (e.g. Students that are in the pre Doctoral Proposal defence - so that the discussion at the DC might help them refine if not shape it). Submissions must be submitted via EasyChair. Accepted students will be asked to prepare a presentation of their PhD research (the length of the presentation will vary depending on submission and acceptance rates). Besides the submitted document and presentation, students will be asked to prepare a poster which will be included in the MUM 2022 poster track to give students the opportunity to showcase and discuss their work beyond the DC session. Moreover, the contributions will be made available on the conference webpage to make them accessible to the public (but not included in the proceedings). Submissions should clearly state the progress beyond the existing state-of- the-art and the expected societal benefits of the developed technology. Submissions We invite Research and Technical papers, up to 15 pages, describing original unpublished research, making a substantial contribution to the research field. Interaction 23 is a premier venue for interaction design practitioners, researchers, and educators to discuss emergent practice-based challenges, share best practices in the discipline, and call for a change through design. (These comments must be in the form of suggestions, not criticisms.) * When discussing the ideas, the following kinds of questions will be asked: - What are the ideas? - Which ideas seem like good ones (and why)? - Which ideas need improvement or elimination? (Make positive suggestions when you can.) * At the end the authors ask questions of the group. This is the basic format, but we adjust the flow according to the needs of the group and the way the discussion is going. It is formal to ensure all the important points are covered. Six to eight pages might be considered a good target for the contributions expected at PAINT. However, there is no page limit on submitted papers. As a general rule, the number of pages should match the size of the contribution. It is the responsibility of the authors to keep the reviewers interested and motivated to read the paper. Reviewers are under no obligation to read all or even a substantial portion of a paper if they do not find the initial part of it interesting. Special Issue on Intelligent Systems for People with Diverse Cognitive Abilities This special issue highlights state-of-the-art research in intelligent systems and technology for people with diverse abilities. To control scope, we focus on cognitive diversity, including but not limited to, neurodevelopmental disorders and autism, cognitive and learning disabilities, and dementia. This special issue targets the challenges and requirements inherent to the development and assessment of such systems. Submission of Proposals To help authors find a good fit, we encourage proposals. Proposals should be about 1000 words and provide a clear indication of what the paper is about. Proposals will be evaluated for relevance to the special issue theme, and guidance will be given. India HCI 2022 <https://www.indiahci.org/2022/> is the 13th edition of the international conference series on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Sponsored by the HCI Professionals Association of India and in cooperation with ACM’s special interest group on computer-human interaction (SIGCHI), India HCI brings together researchers and practitioners from diverse areas that include traditional graphical & web user interfaces, tangible & ubiquitous computing, virtual & augmented reality, multimedia, new input & output devices, computer games, privacy, security, visualization, health, accessibility and aging, design, user modeling, engineering interactive systems, ICT for development, CSCW, and more. India HCI provides a special spotlight on papers that are relevant to South Asia, including those related to culture, language, socio-economic situations, and the industry of the region. The intimate size, single track, and comfortable surroundings make this conference an ideal opportunity to exchange research results and implementation experiences. THEMES: Significantly novel enabling technologies such as innovative input devices, displays, new interaction techniques, or new media that extend the boundaries of traditional interaction, such as natural user interfaces and interactions, mixed reality, mobile interaction, computer games, health, accessibility, and aging, user modeling. 1) User studies that engage qualitative research methods and/or offer critical perspectives on technology design, deployment, and/or use. 2) Engineering interactive systems design, ubiquitous computing (including wearables), social software, ICT for development (ICTD), and computer-supported collaborative work (CSCW). 3) Innovative user interfaces for difficult interaction contexts or challenging applications. High-quality original submissions that address such future issues, show the design and evaluation in (near-) real scenarios, explain how to benchmark systems, and outline the education and training procedures for acquiring new perceptual skills while using such systems are welcome. Research and technical papers are expected to present significant and original contributions validated with the targeted end-users. Submissions should clearly state the progress beyond the existing state-of- the-art and the expected societal benefits of the developed technology. Submissions We invite Research and Technical papers, up to 15 pages, describing original unpublished research, making a substantial contribution to the research field. We are looking for candidates for one three-year PhD scholarships that will be carried out at the at the Human Interfaces in Information Systems (HIIS) Laboratory at CNR-ISTI (http://hiis.isti.cnr.it/): The fellowship is associated with the PhD school at the Computer Science department of the University of Pisa (https://dottorato.di.unipi.it/) in the Human-Computer Interaction area, with preference for topics related to Adaptive Human-Computer Interaction. The HIIS Laboratory is a creative and multi-disciplinary interactive technologies research laboratory, with deep and extensive research collaborations, industrial partners, and a supportive working environment. Pisa is a lively small town located in Tuscany, near the coast, characterised by the presence of a rich research ecosystem (three Universities and many research centres) very active in the ICT area. We are therefore looking for deserving candidates. It is useful to have some programming knowledge, interest and passion for the considered topics, and to carry out research activities. Acceptance notifications will be sent on June 30, 2022. For the Work in Progress initiative we *encourage submissions from “newcomers”* such as master students or early-stage PhD Students e.g. whose supervisor is not part of the HAID discourse, especially from *underrepresented groups*. At the time of submission, authors will be asked to indicate whether they want to be paired with an experienced HAID researcher during the conference (on site or online) to help develop the work-in-progress into a co-authored future HAID submission. *** Last Mile for Paper Submission *** ACM International Conference on Information Technology for Social Good (GoodIT 2022) 7–9 September, 2022, 5* St. Raphael Resort & Marina, Limassol, Cyprus https://cyprusconferences.org/goodit2022/ (*** Submission Deadline Extension (firm!): 6 June, 2022 ***) Scope The ACM GoodIT conference seeks papers describing significant research contributions related to the application of information technologies (IT) to social good. Social good is typically defined as something that provides a benefit to the general public. In this context, clean air and water, Internet connection, education, and healthcare are all good examples of social goods. However, new media innovations and the explosion of online communities have added new meaning to the term. Social good is now about global citizens uniting to unlock the potential of individuals, technology, and collaboration to create a positive societal impact. GoodIT solicits papers that address important research challenges related to, but not limited to: • Citizen science • Civic intelligence • Decentralized approaches to IT • Digital solutions for Cultural Heritage • Environmental monitoring • Ethical computing • Frugal solutions for IT • Game, entertainment, and multimedia applications • Health and social care • IT for automotive • IT for development • IT for education • IT for smart living • Privacy, trust and ethical issues in ICT solutions • Smart governance and e-administration • Social informatics • Socially responsible IT solutions • Sustainable cities and transportation • Sustainable IT • Technology addressing the digital divide Paper Submission The papers should not exceed eleven (11) pages single-column, including figures, tables, and references in the new ACM format (https://cyprusconferences.org/goodit2022/index.php/authors/ ). They must be original works and must not have been previously published. At least one of the authors of all accepted papers must register and present the work at the conference; otherwise, the paper will not be published in the proceedings. All accepted and presented papers will be included in the conference proceedings published in the ACM Digital Library. In addition to a Main Track, the conference features 9 additional Special Tracks. More information on these tracks is available on the conference web site. Journal Special Issues and Best Paper Award Selected papers will be invited to submit an extended version to two special journal issues: • FGCS, Elsevier (https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/future-generation-computer-systems) • MDPI Sensors, where the theme of the special issue will be "Application of Information Technology (IT) to Social Good" (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/sensors/special_issues/topical_collection_good… ). Specifically 5 papers will be invited free of charge and another 5 papers will get a 20% discount on the publication fees. Furthermore, MDPI Sensors will sponsor a Best Paper Award with the amount of 400 CHF. Work-in-Progress and PhD Track Inside ACM GoodIT, the Work-in-Progress and PhD Track provides an opportunity to showcase interesting new work that is still at an early stage. We encourage practitioners and researchers to submit to the Work-in-Progress venue as it provides a unique opportunity for sharing valuable ideas, eliciting feedback on early-stage work, and fostering discussions and collaborations among colleagues. Moreover, this track provides a platform for PhD students to present and receive feedback on their ongoing research. Students at different stages of their research will have the opportunity to present and discuss their research questions, goals, methods and results. This is an opportunity to obtain guidance on various aspects of their research from established researchers and other PhD students working in research areas related to technologies for social good. Cari saluti, Maristella -------------------- Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to announce the International Summer School “Digital Interactive Smart Spaces” that will be held in Como and Milan in July 2022, organized by Politecnico di Milano in cooperation with the Lake Como School for Advanced Studies and EIT Digital. The School is devoted to Master/PhD students, researchers and professionals, who want to i) deepen their knowledge on Smart Spaces technology, and its potential/limitations; ii) to improve their competence on interaction design for Smart Spaces, and explore how applications can be developed to maximize usability, accessibility, and eﬀectiveness; iii) better understand the business opportunities in this arena and the social challenges involved. The Summer School is organized in 2 weeks. The first week (July 11-15, 2022) has a research focus, with outstanding speakers from prestigious universities and research centers in Europe and abroad, and will be held on the Como Lake at Villa del Grumello (www.villadelgrumello.it/it/<https://www.villadelgrumello.it/it/>) .
