This workshop marks the beginning of MedCHI's journey, an initiative promoted by ACM SIGCHI aiming to unite and inspire HCI professionals and enthusiasts across the Mediterranean. **We Invite Your Insights and Innovations** Researchers and practitioners from the Mediterranean regions are warmly invited to contribute to this seminal event. Ideal IUI submissions should address practical HCI challenges using machine intelligence and discuss both computational and human-centric aspects of such methodologies, techniques, and systems. We invite students who feel they would benefit from this kind of feedback—the ideal participant is a doctoral student about two years from finishing their Ph.D. We will also consider advanced Master's students and junior Ph.D. students provided their research plan is sufficiently developed to benefit from the discussion at the DC. Submissions will be selected by the DC chairs and potentially other reviewers. The strongest candidates will be those who have a clear topic and research approach and who have made some progress, but are not too far along in their research so that they can still reshape their research topic or approach. The final version of accepted Doctoral Consortium submissions will be included in the main conference proceedings published in the ACM Digital Library. The Doctoral Consortium workshop will take place as a separate session in parallel to workshops and tutorials, and DC participants will have the opportunity to present their research in the poster session during the main program. Music is one of the possible activities that can be conducted in such a space. The “Musical Metaverse”, the metaverse part which is dedicated to musical activities, is currently in its infancy, although is a concept that is constantly evolving and is progressing at a steady pace. The Musical Metaverse is an emerging topic in communications as well as in human-computer interaction. To date, scarce research has been conducted on how to integrate networking systems with Musical XR systems. The aim of the workshop is to bring together academics, artists and industry representatives to investigate and advance the development of systems at the confluence of Musical XR and networking, as well as the understanding of human perception in immersive, networked contexts. We are looking for a motivated PhD student to join our research team at Birmingham City University (UK). The PhD candidate should demonstrate interest in Human-Computer Interaction, Computational Interaction and Ageing & Accessibility Research. The goal of the research project is to explore new ways to design mobile interfaces adapting to individual differences among task performing abilities of older adults with stages of dementia with the aim of supporting them to live more inclusively within society. Good programming and writing skills are desirable. Funding: PhD Classic Doctoral Training Grant Funding Information This funding model includes a 36 month fully funded PhD Studentship, in-line with the Research Council values, which comprises a tax-free stipend paid monthly (£18,622 2023 – 2024) per year and a Full Time Home Fee Scholarship (£4,712 for 2023 – 2024) for up to 3 years, subject to you making satisfactory progression within your PhD. Important: International students will be required to pay the difference between the International Fee Rate and Home Fee Rate. All applicants will receive the same stipend irrespective of fee status. There is a need for diverse approaches to understand and design collaborative robotic systems from a human-centred rather than technology-driven perspective, thereby empowering people in the collaboration. Questions relevant to be answered for design-led, human-centred HRC include: • What are methodological approaches to HRC research that emphasise the role of people? • How can HRC become accessible to diverse populations, e.g., through conveying robot intent in various modalities or through novel interaction approaches? • How can we design for various human-robot configurations, e.g., considering different robot behaviours in changing environments and situations? • How can robots adapt to fluctuations in human performance and working rhythms? Given the diverse range of applications for HRC, there is an opportunity for multiple disciplines to come together to explore the many dimensions of this emerging field. Collaboration between disciplines such as robotics, interaction design, human factors, psychology, architecture, and more is crucial for understanding and addressing the many challenges of designing inclusive, adaptable, trustworthy, effective, and safe HRC systems. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, we can develop more comprehensive solutions that leverage the strengths of each discipline and create a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in human-robot collaboration. Investigating implications of people collaborating closely with robots is critical to shaping the future of HRC. These implications include ethical and social aspects of integrating robots into particular application domains and understanding the impact of robots in terms of, e.g., people’s daily routines and life experiences. Additionally, it is essential to examine how HRC can impact workforce dynamics and job roles as more organizations integrate robots into their operations. By exploring the implications of HRC, we can (1) identify challenges and opportunities and (2) develop strategies for ensuring that HRC systems benefit and support people. Complexity arises from many factors, including the dynamic environment and the scenarios these systems operate in, demanding and sometimes conflicting requirements in functionality, efficiency, scalability, security, dependability and adaptability, data heterogeneity, as well as the wide range of development methodologies, programming languages and implementation details. Performance, real-time behaviour, fault tolerance, robustness, security, adaptability, development time and cost, and long life concerns are some of the key issues arising in the development of such systems. The International Conference on Engineering of Complex Computer Systems (ICECCS) is a well-established event that has been held around the world for over 25 years. The goal of this conference is to bring together industrial, academic, and government experts from a variety of application domains and software disciplines, to discuss how the disciplines’ problems and solution techniques interact within the whole system. Researchers, practitioners, tool developers and users, and technology transfer experts are all welcome. The scope of the conference includes long-term research issues, near-term requirements and challenges, established complex systems, emerging promising tools, and retrospective and prospective reflections of research and development into complex systems. A program goal is to organize several sessions that include both academic and industrial papers on a given topic and culminate panels to discuss relationships between industrial and academic research. COLLABORATION WITH THE ACM TRANSACTIONS ON SOFTWARE ENGINEERING AND METHODOLOGY (TOSEM) To facilitate the dissemination of high-quality research presented at ICECCS 2024, selected papers will be invited to submit extended versions of their accepted conference papers to ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology (TOSEM). Authors of these selected papers are kindly requested to submit their extended manuscripts within six months following their conference presentation. Upon the authors' acceptance of this invitation, TOSEM will provide comprehensive instructions and requirements for the submission and review process. TOSEM will conduct its rigorous review process and make final decisions on acceptance. SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION Full papers are divided into two categories: Technical Papers and Experience Reports. The papers submitted to both categories will be reviewed by the program committee members, and papers accepted in either category will be published in the conference proceedings. Technical papers should describe original research, and experience reports should present practical projects carried out in the industry, and reflect on the lessons learnt from them. Short paper submissions describe early-stage, ongoing or PhD research. All short papers will be reviewed by the program committee members, and accepted short papers will be published in the conference proceedings. The ACM UMAP 2024 Doctoral Consortium (DC) will take place as part of the conference. The DC provides an opportunity for doctoral students to explore and develop their research interests under the guidance of distinguished researchers and industry practitioners from the field. Doctoral students are invited to apply for presenting their research to experienced scholars who will provide constructive feedback and advice. Students should consider participating in the DC if they are at least one year away from completing their dissertation at the time of the event, but after having settled on a research area or dissertation topic. **** PLEASE, EXCUSE MULTIPLE POSTINGS **** *CFP for the 1st Workshop on Information Retrieval for Understudied Users (IR4U2)* Please join us at IR4U2, co-located with the 46th European Conference on Information Retrieval (ECIR), which will take place 24th-28th March 2024 in Glasgow, Scotland Information Retrieval (IR) remains an active, fast-paced area of research. Nevertheless, most advancements in this domain have primarily favored what we might term 'conventional' users, such as English-speaking adults. We envision IR4U2 as a forum to spotlight efforts that, while sparse, consider diverse, and often understudied, user groups when designing, developing, assessing, and deploying the IR technologies that directly impact them. Among these groups, we find, for example, older adults, young children and adolescents, individuals afflicted by mental health disorders, users with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), individuals with intellectual disabilities, or those with specific learning needs. We aim to 1. Raise awareness about ongoing efforts focused on IR technologies designed for and used by often understudied user groups; 2. Identify challenges and open issues impacting this area of research; 3. Ignite discussions to identify common frameworks for future research; 4. Outline a general approach to facilitate research endeavors driven by and at the service of specific user groups. 5. Cross-fertilization and community-building by sharing lessons learned gathered from research catering to different audiences by researchers and (industry) practitioners across various disciplines. IR4U2 will be a highly participatory, full-day, in-person workshop. This will involve informal interactions, facilitated group work, and brief presentations of accepted contributions. These contributions will help construct a snapshot of the current works in this area. Topics of interest include: - User modeling to enable IR and recommendation technologies tailored to understudied populations. - Data collection and benchmark development of IR catering to understudied populations. - IR applications targeting understudied populations. - UI/UX for search, recommender, and question-answering systems for understudied populations. - IR-related technology (clustering, classification, text processing, text complexity) and their impact on understudied populations. - Different perspectives of evaluation. - Design of the user interaction with IR systems. - Ethical issues associated with IR technologies for understudied users; e.g., their right to be represented, acknowledged, have access, and be served by existing and to-be-developed systems. This is not an exhaustive list, as we are also interested in contributions discussing challenges inherent to designing IR technology at the service of understudied user groups–from the need for multidisciplinary, multi-stakeholder collaborations to how to build datasets. Submissions: Peer-reviewed contributions. These include research papers presenting empirical explorations, user studies, and/or new algorithms related to the open problems listed in topics of interest, as well as position/vision contributions discussing uses cases, challenges, and future research directions. [ACM IUI 2024] Call for Doctoral Consortium Submissions

* We apologize if you receive multiple copies of this CfP * * Online version: https://iui.acm.org/2024/call_for_doctoral_consortium.html ** ACM IUI 2024 - Call for Doctoral Consortium Submissions** 29th International ACM Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces (ACM IUI 2024) Greenville, South Carolina, USA, March 18-21, 2024 https://iui.acm.org/2024/ ** Overview ** The IUI 2024 Doctoral Consortium (DC) provides students an opportunity to present and receive feedback about their research in an interdisciplinary workshop, under the guidance of a panel of mentors selected from senior researchers in the field. We invite students who feel they would benefit from this kind of feedback—the ideal participant is a doctoral student about two years from finishing their Ph.D. We will also consider advanced Master's students and junior Ph.D. students provided their research plan is sufficiently developed to benefit from the discussion at the DC. Submissions will be selected by the DC chairs and potentially other reviewers. The strongest candidates will be those who have a clear topic and research approach and who have made some progress, but are not too far along in their research so that they can still reshape their research topic or approach. The final version of accepted Doctoral Consortium submissions will be included in the main conference proceedings published in the ACM Digital Library. The Doctoral Consortium workshop will take place as a separate session in parallel to workshops and tutorials, and DC participants will have the opportunity to present their research in the poster session during the main program. Complimentary/reduced conference registration will be available for students. Ideal IUI submissions should address practical HCI challenges using machine intelligence and discuss both computational and human-centric aspects of such methodologies, techniques, and systems. We welcome contributions from related fields such as psychology, behavioral science, cognitive science, computer graphics, design, the arts, and more. Our focus is to improve the interaction between humans and machines, by leveraging both HCI approaches and state-of-the-art AI techniques from machine learning, natural language processing, data mining, knowledge representation and reasoning. ACM IUI welcomes contributions from all relevant arenas, academia, industry, government, and non-profit organizations, and gives its participants the opportunity to present and see cutting-edge IUI work in a focused and interactive setting. **Posters** Posters provide an opportunity for sharing valuable last-minute ideas, eliciting useful feedback on early-stage work and fostering discussions and collaborations among colleagues. We invite submissions relevant to all conference topics. All submissions should convey a scientific result or work in progress that is not yet ready to be published as a full-length research paper at a refereed conference. The page limit for poster papers is 7 pages (references do not count toward the page limit). Submitting a draft poster along with your submission is not required but is recommended. Accepted poster papers will appear in the companion proceedings of the conference. Each accepted contribution is expected to be presented in person. **Demos** The demonstration track complements the overall program of the conference. Demonstrations show implementations of novel, interesting, and important intelligent user interface concepts or systems. We invite submissions relevant to intelligent user interfaces and which address, but are not limited to, the topics of the conference. All submissions are intended to convey a scientific result or work in progress and should not be advertisements for commercial software packages. The page limit for demo papers is 4 pages (references do not count toward the page limit). Authors further need to submit a video (max. 5 mins) along with their demo paper to showcase their work. Accepted demo papers will be presented as interactive demonstrations at IUI and published in the companion proceedings of the conference. Each accepted contribution is expected to be presented in person.
