*** First Call for Workshops and Minisymposia ***
29th International European Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing
(Euro-Par 2023)
August 28 - September 1, 2023, St. Raphael Resort, Limassol, Cyprus
http://2023.euro-par.org
SCOPE
Euro-Par is the prime European conference covering all aspects of parallel and
distributed processing, ranging from theory to practice, from small to the largest
parallel and distributed systems and infrastructures, from fundamental
computational problems to applications, from architecture, compiler, language and
interface design and implementation, to tools, support infrastructures, and
application performance aspects. To provide a meeting point for researchers to
discuss and exchange new ideas and hot topics related to parallel and distributed
computing and their applications, Euro-Par 2023 will co-locate workshops and, for
the first time, minisymposia with the main conference. This is an invitation to send
proposals for the workshop and, for the first time, a minisymposium program. Both
workshops and minisymposia will be held on August 28 - August 29, 2023, the first
two days of the conference.
WORKSHOPS
Workshop Proposal Guidelines
The proposals should include the following information:
- Workshop title and acronym, preference for length (half or full-day)
- Information of the organizers, including a short biography of each organizer
(5-10 lines). Each workshop will have a single main organizer, the corresponding
contact. Others can be co-organizers. All the organizers must be a staff member
at an institution or a company, and no PhD or other students can be organizers.
- A tentative program committee (10-15 members)

Workshop Proceedings and Paper Review
The workshop proceedings will be published in a separate LNCS workshop volume
after the conference. The principal coordinator of each workshop will appear as
co-editor of the workshop volume. Registered workshop participants will receive
an electronic copy of the volume by email. All authors of accepted papers will be
requested to sign a Springer copyright form.
The Euro-Par organizers will provide an EasyChair setup for all Euro-Par 2020
workshops, and its use is mandatory to facilitate paper submissions, reviewing, and
collecting the camera-ready versions. The workshop papers will not be published in
the proceedings otherwise. Each workshop will be an independent track within the
Workshops' EasyChair installation, but it will be fully manageable by the respective
organizers. Papers of less than 10 pages will be considered as short papers that can
be presented at the conference but not published in the proceedings.
(Submission address and deadline at the end)
MINISYMPOSIA
A minisymposium is a session of coordinated presentations for promoting
interdisciplinary communication on a topic of current interest and importance in
the field of parallel and distributed computing, ideally having potential application

*Overview*
-----------------------------------------------------------
The guest editors are proud to invite and welcome contributions from
researchers and practitioners from all over the world involved in the
development of Smart Learning Ecosystems and Smart Education, as engines
of social innovation and territorial development. At the core, the
adjective “smart” comprises terms like intelligent, purpose oriented,
supportive, artful, clever and the like. Thus, smart does not
necessarily include the usage of technology (neither does it exclude
technology!).
After the shock of the pandemic, learning ecosystems – and in particular
schools, universities, and territorial learning communities – all over
the world – are facing a new phase characterized by the search for and
the experimentation of ways to their “new normality“. In such a context,
collaboration is emerging as an approach and an attitude of considerable
relevance that stays also at the basis of the polyphonic construction of
the future of learning ecosystems. Alongside collaboration, on the
technological side, it continues to rise the relevance of intelligent
systems, generically collected under the label of Artificial
Intelligence (AI); concurrently, on the pedagogical side, competences
have become the goal of future education, also in the attempt to close
the skill gap, which represents one of the greatest dangers for the
transition towards smarter productive systems and societies. Competences
and AI, by the way, are also topics that intersect and influence each
other and rise questions of ethical nature.
So, what should we expect for future learning ecosystems? How “smart
learning ecosystems” are changing? How such changes may be related to
the achievement of “a better learning for a better world” as a
contribution to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs)? How will they contribute to the reduction of
inequalities and, at the same time, to the empowering of each individual
according to his expectations and talents?
This special issue, which is supported by the Association for Smart
Learning Ecosystems and Regional Development (ASLERD), welcomes papers
that report on work aimed to contribute to the discussion about these
issues.
Submission of substantially extended version of the papers presented at
SLERD 2022, are welcome.
-----------------------------------------------------------

* Research Plan
The PhD’s objective is to imagine novel ways to interact with augmented objects that best leverages users’ expertise with the existing objects in their environment. The Internet of Things (IoT) started to replace our traditional objects, both personal (e.g., smart home) and professional (e.g., smart office), with connected objects including augmented capabilities. Users are already able to use voice or direct touch to interact with these objects. Yet, users already developed extensive expertise with their traditional objects’ current physical interfaces. The PhD student will explore how users’ expertise can transfer from the UI of traditional objects to novel remote UIs (deformable tangible interaction, or mid-air inputs for instance).
* Candidate
We seek candidates with profound interest in Human-Computer Interaction, strong motivation, and creativity. A successful candidate:
- Has a strong master’s degree in computer science or another area related to Human-Computer Interaction,
- Has excellent written and oral communication skills,
- Has excellent software and/or hardware skills.
Curiosity toward cognitive sciences, statistics, and fabrication are not mandatory, but are a plus.
* Application
Applications will be considered until the position is filled. Applicants should submit (1) a full CV, (2) copies of their university degree and/or study transcripts, (3) name and contact information of at least one reference, and (4) a brief description of their research interests. Please send your application via e-mail to Céline Coutrix and William Delamare: celine.coutrix(a)cnrs.fr, w.delamare(a)estia.fr.

FULL PAPERS and TECHNICAL NOTES SUBMISSIONS
EICS full papers and technical notes are published as articles in the
journal Proceedings of the ACM on Human-Computer Interaction (PACM -
EICS series). There are three submission deadlines per year, and authors
can choose when to submit. Papers follow the traditional journal model
of reviewing: papers may be accepted after submission and review, or may
be recommended for revisions and re-submission to the next round to
enable authors to refine papers based on reviewer recommendations.
Submissions for the journal of this venue should present original and
mature research work within the scope of the conference. New from this
year: accepted journal papers can be either regular research papers, or
technical notes. Technical Notes are shorter, more focused
contributions, that focus specifically on system contributions and
technical work. Elucidating technical details of complex interactive
systems, preferably ensuring the work can be reproduced or put to
practice, is a primary objective of a Technical Note. Tech Notes require
an illustrative example of the system, and they can, but do not need to,
be validated by formal user evaluations or user studies. Validation can
also be done through e.g. simulation, feasibility, or comparisons.Tech
Notes will be judged on their technical merits and relevance to
interactive systems concerns.
There are no length restrictions on Full Papers and Technical Notes, nor
any limit to the number of references that may be included. We advise
authors to ensure the length of their papers is in function of the
contributions. Concise and clear is often to be preferred above lengthy
and verbose.
Full Papers should be written in the ACM format, see
https://www.acm.org/publications/authors/submissions
The PACM-EICS submission deadline for the Second round of submissions is
24 October 2022. Papers are submitted using
